About the Author
Born in 1906 in London, Oscar Fishtein emigrated in 1908 with his family to New England. Growing up in Rhode Island, he was regularly bloodied by young anti-Semitic toughs, until he took up boxing, displaying such a flair for it that he went semi-pro.
Graduating from Brown University in 1927, he became a social worker in the Harlem district of New York City. At the age of 52, pursuing a lifelong dream, he became a man of letters. He earned a master's degree at Rutgers University, secured a teaching position in the English Department of Union Country College, and is professor emeritus.
In 1979, he founded the L.I.F.E. (Learning Is For Ever) Center, a program providing senior citizens with free college courses. He is also co-founder and president of the New Jersey Council on Senior Citizen Education, and retired senior fellow for education, research and development at Rutgers' Institute on Aging. He has received numerous awards for his service in connection with senior citizens' education.

From Foreword: The name Eichmann meant something to us. We had heard of him as one of the executors of the "final solution," but it did not then have quite the clang of terror history gave it. Nonetheless, when the committee selected me to meet with him, my heart leaped. Millions killed had one abstract fear meaning, but for me to meet the tiger face-to-face was paralyzing. My mind searched for a legitimate excuse to say "No" or "I'm not the one," but my tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth and I nodded.
