This is a collection of speeches and addresses by Iraqi president Saddam Hussein between February 1990 and February 1991. This is an important period as it relates to the events leading up to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the allied military attack on Iraq in January-February 1991. Bengio, a research fellow at the Dayan Center, Tel Aviv University, has relied almost exclusively on Foreign Broadcast Information Service (FBIS), a U.S. government publication, to compile this book. In addition to the primary documents, Bengio provides a succinct overview of events leading up to the Persian Gulf crisis of 1990-91. Recommended for scholars of Middle East politics and libraries that do not subscribe to FBIS.

About the Author
OFRA BENGIO is Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Kurdish Studies Program at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, as well as Associate Professor (Emerita) in the Department of Middle Eastern and African History at Tel Aviv University. A frequent commentator in Israeli and world media, she is the author of several books, including The Kurds of Iraq: Building a State within a State. She lives in Tel Aviv, Israel.
